As of February 20, 2023, BTC reached $24.48 thousand with a market capitalization of $472.4 billion, far exceeding Visa ($469.87 billion) and Mastercard ($344.24 billion).

Notably, this is the third time Bitcoin has surpassed Visa in terms of market capitalization.

The last time it happened was in December 2020, when the BTC exchange rate “broke the ceiling” of $25 thousand, and in April 2021 on the eve of the new bull run. Last October bitcoin was close to the leader in this competition, but a month later it seriously lagged behind. At that time, the indicator “fell” by $100 billion. However, in January, bitcoin regained its positions. Moreover, the indicator increased by $65 billion.

In case of Mastercard, the situation is even more significant. The gap is even bigger here. The situation is also fueled by the fact that bitcoin continues to grow, while precious metals and bonds are falling. Michael Saylor, ex-CEO of MicroStrategy USA, also noted this. It should be noted that MicroStrategy has adopted bitcoin as its main reserve asset and is systematically continuing to buy it.
